The NIR-radiation penetrates deep into the varnish layer and leads to an interaction and heating within the whole varnish volume. This is an decisive advantage compared to other technologies at which energy is inserted into the varnish layer solely by the principle of an essentially slower warmth conduction. The consequences are much shorter process times and typically lower PMT by 40 K (PMT = Peak Metal Temperature). In the meanwhile, more than 500 different coatings have been tested in cooperation with paint manufacturers and according NIR parameters have been defined.
